Sandy Hook National Park Meets

Gunnison Beach (Clothing Optional)

May: 27th (Saturday)

June: 18th and 25th (Sunday)

July: 9th (Sunday)

August: 13th (Sunday)

NOTE: RSVP if you can, so we know who to wait for/look for/worry about if they don't show/etc... if it's below 78 Degrees for the Atlantic Highlands, it's recommended to not go out to the beach.

Historical Visits: Gunnison is an old War Battery, so it has a lot of historical sites around it as well. Lots of tours planned this year. If there is enough interest we'll get one going!

Yes! It's that time of year again! We will go to the beach, see the ocean and sunbathe on the sand! This is our 11th year running!

If you need crash space, please indicate it! If there are at least 5 furs paying $10-20 each, we can get a decent hotel space if there isn’t a room/apt/house from a fur available. This way we can all relax, and furs that are traveling from far away can crash and hang out for an extra day with the furs of NJ! Lots of places to go to and things to do after the beach, from catching a movie, to going to an arcade, to getting dinner. For furs traveling from other states by plane, train or bus, if you can get to or arrive via train along the NE:Corridor line in Edison or New Brunswick, I can pick you up, just let me know ahead of time. (yes, furs do travel to this meet)

Some info about Gunnison: Gunnison Beach is one of several beaches that are part of the Gateway National Recreation Area in northern New Jersey, located on Sandy Hook, a six-mile-long peninsula across from the entrance to New York Harbor. Sandy Hook is known for exceptional beaches, wildlife, and fishing. Gunnison Beach, overlooked by the historic Sandy Hook Lighthouse, has dramatic views of lower Manhattan and the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Nearly two miles of Gunnison Beach is legally recognized as clothing-optional, with official signs and full lifeguard and police protection; it is the largest clothing-optional beach on the Atlantic coast of the US, and draws more than 5,000 visitors per day on most sunny summer weekends.

FAQ: http://gbnj.us/node/16437

RULES:

  • The beach does have a strict rule, if you bring it with you, take it with you! So if you plan to bring a lot that makes trash, plan to bring a back to put it all in and take back with you. There are no Trash Cans.

  • Family beach, behave and act appropriately. (yes, beach attendees are as young as 2yrs old)

  • Pictures are allowed, however you MUST have permission from people before taking the pictures, so make sure no one is in the backgrounds.

  • NO Glass

  • NO Weapons

  • NO Kites

Time: 2:00pm - till we are done (beach duration, 6pm most likely). You can arrive as early as you'd like, but I will not be there until 2pm. (better parking after 2, and free parking after 5pm or before 8:30am)

Where: Gunnison Beach (Area G) and North Beach (follow the signs) at Sandy Hook Park in Sandy Hook/Atlantic Highlands, NJ NJ Garden State Parkway Exit 117, to route 36 South (12miles), to the beach! (Once you past the Beach Entrance, Gunnison is a good 4miles down the road!)

Gunnison: Clothing Optional: Clothing is optional. Not Nude. This is a family beach (kids are around), and while they do serve alcohol, no inappropriate behaivor is allowed.

Meet Spot: When you arrive on the beach, look for the flags! You'll see a Bright Orange one with a black paw on it! (Thank you Lupine Fox, Soma Cat and Shortwave P. Husky!), Thats us! pics can be found in the pictures link up at the top! :) It's really hard to miss! :) I do have my cell phone on me that I try to check every 30minutes. Call me if you still can't find us. Usually we migrate to the middle or to the right of the beach as you are walking towards the water.

Note: Sometimes Badger will bring a LGBT rainbow flag and a imperial Japanese flag (it's a flag that stands out, no politics involved, he just has it)

Necessities: Sandals!! The pavement is hot! Do not leave your car without something on your paws! Along the beginning of the beach there may be a lot of shells, once you walk out there it is a nicely combed beach, but before that, the shells can be murder.. bring your sandals! Don't yell at me saying I didn't warn you!! Suntan/Sunblock lotion should also be used :) Sketchbooks...

Parking in area G (g): $15 every day. But this is avoidable, by carpooling or waiting till parking is free! When carpooling everyone should pitch in a dollar or 2. Parking is free before 7am (morning early birds need a parking pass from the ranger station which is the entrance.. so you'll get one.. just have to be sure they give you one...) and after 4:30pm.. So if you want to wait till 4:30pm to come to the beach, no worries, come on after 4:30pm. Season Parking Passes are $75.

Contact info: 7325087297 = cell... If you call, be sure to call at least a day before the meet as phone signal is low on the beach. You can also send me a text message by phone or by telegram @shymatsi  or DM me on Twitter @shy_matsi

Accomadations Location/Dinner: Directions will be provided at the meet.

LifeGaurds: LifeGaurds are on duty from 8am till 5pm.
